Not long after we moved here, the girls and I went for a walk. We saw a lady sitting in front of her house reading the Bible. She called us over and started speaking to us in Spanish. At that time, the girls and I knew VERY little Spanish. What we interpreted her to say was that she wanted someone to read the Bible to her. I told her that my husband spoke Spanish and we would tell him to come talk to her. It broke my heart that she wanted to learn about His word but she couldn’t read. Yet, every time that we saw her sitting in front of her house, she was “reading” the Bible.
When the mission team was here, Mo took a small group to her house to pray with the little lady, whose name is Dominga. He figured out that she could indeed read, but the words were too small. She simply needed some reading glasses! That was an easy fix because we had a couple of extra pair of reading glasses. You should see how proud she is of her glasses! Precious!!!
When Mo first accepted Christ, he distinctly heard God tell him that he was to help widows. This is something that Mo has taken very seriously. In TN, with the help of our church, God led him to began a ministry to help widows and elderly with simple handyman tasks around their house.
Wouldn’t you know it that this little lady is a widow? Mo has been saying “I have a feeling that God has put her in our life for a reason, and He wants us to help her.”
Last night, we were just sitting around, when our neighbors ran over and told us to “Come quickly”! We raced down the path with numerous other people. Dominga’s house was on fire!
Dominga does not have an actual kitchen so she was cooking over a small fire behind her house earlier in the evening. Apparently, she thought that she had put it out and had gone to bed, only to be awoken by the fire. Luckily, it was contained to one little area at the back of the house. Everyone was able to put out the fire with buckets of water. I was amazed and proud of the way this little community came together to protect this beautiful woman!
Talk about God speaking!!! Mo knew without a doubt that God was asking us to help her. He told her that we would come over today to help clean up. So this morning, we went over with our shovel, rake, and wheelbarrow to clean up. As you can see in the picture above, the fire burned a small hole in the back of her house. It rained last night, and she said that the rain got into her house. There were a couple of pieces of metal left laying around so we nailed them up to cover the hole. We told her that we would be back on Monday (since the next few days all the hardware stores are closed for Easter) to fix it properly.
As with this entire journey, we don’t really know what we are doing. What we do know is…
…When He speaks…
…we want to make sure that we listen and are obedient!
Please pray for this beautiful widow! Thanks!
